As you probably know, I went to Yosemite with my parents, brother, and 2 cousins (the one living with us and Celine). So we left on Thursday around 2:30 and then arrived at Mammoth Lake, where we were staying, at 9. The trip there was pretty boring, nothing too scenic, but the view we got of the sky at one point was pretty lovely. I took some pictures and I plan on using it for textures. :) Anyway, we checked in to our motel and then decided that we would just order pizza for dinner. We ate, played cards, showered, then went to bed. It was absolutely annoying being in ONE room with FIVE OTHER people. I shared a bed with Celine and she kept hitting me in her sleep so I didn’t get that great of a sleep. We woke up Friday morning at 6 and got ready to go out; it was a 1.5 hour drive from our motel up to the north eastern part of Yosemite. So yeah, we got into Yosemite and then parked our car near the trail we were planning to hike and started hiking! It was a 3 mile trail around a mountain, but then we went on another trail to see Dog Lake and then got back on our previous trail.
While we were hiking, we went up a pretty steep path and we saw poop. My mom freaked out because she thought there were going to be bears around since there were bear warnings where we parked our car. So the whole time, my brother and I were taunting our mom about bears. We didn’t see any bears, but we saw deers and a lot of squirrels! HAHA! Dog Lake was really beautiful. I’ll post pictures once I get them on a computer. We stopped at Dog Lake for about half an hour while my brother and Celine were trying to catch dragonflies. They succeed in catching two. Then we started going back to the car, but we decided to stop to take a picture of the mountain we hiked around. So I stepped off the trail closer to the mountain and then a snake jumped out of nowhere! It wasn’t huge, but it was still a snake. So I ran away from it and then went to another spot. Pathetic.
We got back into the car and then started driving further into the park. We stopped at the the park grill and ate lunch, then we continued driving for a bit. We ended up finding this other lake (I forgot the name of it) and we ended up staying there for about 1.5 hours to play in the water. It was almost like a mini beach without the dirty water and big waves. There was a mini shore! The water was crystal clear and I honestly would’ve swam in it if I had my bathing suit with me. But I didn’t, so I just rolled up my jeans and started walking around in it. We ended up heading back to the motel around 4 because my brother was being a brat and didn’t want to continue walking anymore. >:| I was so mad at him. So we were back at the motel way too early for my liking and we ended up doing NOTHING. After a while my parents told us to go out for a walk so they could sleep, so my brother, cousins, and I ended up walking across the street seeing what we could eat for dinner that night. We settled for Italian because it was literally right across the street so we didn’t have to drive and we didn’t feel like eating McDonald’s or burgers of any type.
Saturday was almost the same. We woke up at 6, got ready then checked out of our motel and headed into the park again. This time, we just drove around looking for places that could catch our attention. We ended up wandering around wherever we were allowed to drive. We ended up climbing up this area to get a picture of this mountain, I forget the names. Well anyway, I was looking over the edge and it was absolutely horrific! I was so scared that I was going to fall off. :( Then we continued driving and we stopped by the Valley Portal and we saw Elephant Rock and few other things. Next we went downhill and stopped by this rest stop by a creek. I had wanted to take a picture of the creek earlier, but we didn’t stop, so I decided to climb over some rocks to get a better view. I stepped on this rock, which was huge, and then was about to go down to the next rock, but I misplaced my foot and I ended up sliding down to the next rock. It was so freaken embarrassing because there was a family eating not too far away. Anyway, my dad ended up helping me get down to the farthest spot and then took some pictures and almost slid down into the creek while we were going back up. When I went back up my mom freaked out just a bit because she didn’t know where my dad and I went.
Next we stopped at this place where there you could see some of the biggest Sequoias; and I swear, those Sequoias can be HUGE! It was a mile walk from where we parked our car and it was so easy getting there because we were just going downhill the whole time. But when we started going back up, I was dying! The way back was really steep uphill and it honestly wasn’t really worth it for a hollowed out, dead Sequoia that was supposed to be the biggest tree. But whatever, I ended up making it back to the car before everybody. :D
Oh hey that reminds me of the restrooms in the park. They are so disgusting. Whatever you let go in the toilet just goes straight down into the hole, no flushing so it stinks like crazy! Yuck. :( And they don’t have any sinks, all you get is hand sanitizer if you’re lucky.
Next stop was Glacier Point! You can see most of the park from that place and it’s really nice. You can see two waterfalls, which aren’t as amazing as it sounds because they are really small and there’s not much water coming from it. It was just really lame. We left after we got some pictures because we didn’t want to get home too late.
So at that time, it was already around 3 and we still didn’t have lunch yet so we were all famished. But we couldn’t find a restaurant inside the park at all so I was kind of pissed, we didn’t actually get to eat until 5 when we were finally officially out of the park. Subway never tasted better! I was so sick of food that made me feel like I had just put on several pounds after I ate it. We ended up back in L.A. around 9:30 so we went into Chinatown to eat dinner. Then arrived home at 11.
Yeah, this weekend was pretty wicked. But very tiring. Both my shins hurt right now. My chest still feels kind of funny. Hiking 5 miles with most of it trails going upwards in 9000+ ft elevation really does a lot to you especially if you’ve been doing nothing this summer excepting sitting in front of a computer.
Speaking of computer, my motherboard is screwed up. Ugh, so my uncle took it home to fix or whatever so I won’t be having that back soon. For now, I at least have my cousin’s laptop to use! I’m so bummed out about my computer right now. I saw these new behind the scenes pictures from Twilight and I wanted to make icons with those so bad because they were so irresistible! Ugh, darn Robert Pattinson for taunting me with his pretty face. :(
